Bäcker Lay – die Familienbäckerei

Bäcker Lay – the family bakery in Freiburg and Merzhausen has been baking by hand with passion for four generations. Its range includes butter cake, anniversary bread, Franzbrötchen, onion cake and nut triangles. The anniversary bread is made from buckwheat and wholemeal spelt. The butter cake is baked with caramelized cinnamon sugar. The onion cakes are savory and autumnal, while many consider the nut triangles to be the best in the city.

In Freiburg’s Unterwiehre district, the bakery is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In Merzhausen, opening hours are Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
